Fewer things are better than capturing a senior night win, and the Washington Demon football team did exactly that on Friday night at Case Field with a 42-7 romp over the Oskaloosa Indians in a game heard live on KCII.

After a scoreless first quarter, Washington was able to finish a three play, 32 yard drive in the end zone via a Kael Williams nine yard rush to put themselves on top 6-0 after a failed extra point attempt. After their defense forced a turnover on downs, the offense went right back to work, scoring on another short drive from 63 yards away on another Williams run to extend the lead to 13-0. Williams would complete the quarter hat trick for the Demons with his third rushing score with 2:58 remaining until half to set Washington up with a 21-0 lead. However, the Indians would have their best drive of the night on their first drive out of the locker rooms, going four plays on a Tyler Edgar 14 yard run to cut into the lead after being aided by Washington defensive penalties. The Demons would respond right away with a Liam Roberts jet sweep touchdown score to again lengthen the advantage to 28-7. Washington would score twice more on the night in the fourth with Williams’ fourth TD on the ground, and a five yard Nic Stone rush before the game would end.

Unofficially, Washington won total yards 350-130, including the ground game 287-87 and turnovers 3-2. Individually, Williams was again the leader for the Demons, racking up another 169 yards along with his four scores. He earned Washington County Hospital and Clinics Player of the Game honors for his performance, and broke down the game with KCII Sports.

“We knew the passing game was something we had to focus on this week,” Williams said. “I think we did a good job limiting it. I think that momentum from Burlington carried over for this game. Demons are rolling!”

A pair of his lineman, Greyson Hartman and Rudy Wolfe, also joined KCII Sports postgame to explain their blocking for Williams.

“There is no one else in the state I’d rather block for,” Hartman said. “He’s a great guy. He really keeps us hyped up all the time. He’s just a guy we want to block for, and a guy we’d run through a brick wall for.”

“(On run blocking), I just think about what I have to do, and I just do it. It’s all a mentality thing,” Wolfe said. “I’m going to move this guy whether he likes it or not.”

Clayton Evans joined the stellar Demon rushing attack with 44 yards on eight carries. Roberts carried twice for 13 yards and his score, while Nic Stone had 63 all-purpose yards along with his rushing TD. Oskaloosa was led by Edgar’s three completions for 34 yards. Jeremiah Reeves led the ground game with 42 yards on nine totes.

With the win, Washington improves to 2-2 on the year ahead of their first district game next Friday on the road against rival Mount Pleasant. Oskaloosa drops to 0-4. You can hear the Demons take on the Panthers next Friday on KCII, beginning with pregame coverage at 7 p.m.
