Area landowners have an opportunity to learn about windbreaks, cover crops, and more at the start of September. The Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm near Crawfordsville will host two Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Office events on Thursday.

From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the farm will host Windbreak School, at which farmers and landowners will be able to learn about planning, implementing, maintaining and renovating windbreaks.The class will cover a variety of topics: design and mechanics, establishment and maintenance, renovation and recovery planning, and programs and cost share. Registration is $30, which includes lunch, refreshments and course materials, and must be paid by September 2.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m., the farm will host Fall Field Day. The free, open-to-the-public event will allow attendees to hear a farm research update, visit a cover crop demonstration plot, and view a newly-installed bioreactor. Check-in for the field day begins at 1 p.m. Preregistration is not required.
