U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley voted for the Big Beautiful Bill. KCII News asked what benefits this bill will provide Iowans with its passing,

Grassley shared his thoughts on estimated tax breaks for the middle class, “The main reason was to keep the middle class from getting hit with the biggest tax increase in the history of the country. And that would happen just automatically at the end of this year if we didn’t pass that legislation. And so a tax increase of about $1500 on Iowans I didn’t want to happen.”

Other reasons for voting yes on the bill mentioned by Grassley included securing the border; support of the biofuels industry; cutting down on waste, fraud, and abuse; and establishing work requirements for Medicaid.

Opponents of the bill have been vocal about cuts to Medicaid funding. According to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, 700,000 Iowans have health coverage through Medicaid each year.
