The Keota Eagle softball team rolled past Moulton-Udell Monday in the first round of regional play 12-0 in just four innings. Keota scored in every frame and batted all the way through the order twice, scoring two in the first, six in the second and four in the third. Seven of the nine in the Keota order scored a run and six of the nine had a hit. That was more than enough offense for starter Jessalyn Aller who worked all four innings, surrendering just three hits and striking out 10. Individually at the plate, Aller and Lainey Swanson combined on three hits, six RBI and four runs scored. Halle Heisdorrfer and Elyse Lyle each had a hit, Lyle scored three times, Heisdorrfer once. Adyson Miller drove in two, Kennedy Jackson one while Cameron Haifley scored twice. Following the game, Swanson, Keota’s lone senior, talked about the win for her team and her night.
Swanson said, “My favorite hit of the night was the pop-fly I had that went right over her head into the outfield. I don’t really think about anything specific when I’m up. I just kind of hit and hope it goes far. Tonight we hit all the way through lineup, Jessalyn Aller pitched well and we won! It was pretty fun and exciting!”
The Eagles are now 11-8 after the win. Moulton-Udell ends their season 0-18. Keota moves on to the 1A regional quarterfinals Wednesday at Sigourney in a game that can be heard on KCII.
