The Columbus Wildcats (10-9, 6-3) look to bounce back after back-to-back conference losses as they host the New London-Winfield-Mt. Union Tigers (2-15, 1-7) in Wednesday night’s edition of the KCII Area Game of the Week

The Wildcats are returning from a narrow 11-10 loss against Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division rivals Hillcrest Tuesday night, while the Tigers are coming off their second win of the season in the form of a 7-6 win over South Division rival Danville on Monday.

Wildcat senior Lily Coil has been dominant at the dish throughout her senior season, slashing .554/.648/0.964 while popping a pair of home runs in 2025.

Junior Kennedy Woepking has shared the circle with Coil this year, with both of them averaging near-identical numbers, with both throwing a 1.43 WHIP and a 2.25 ERA. Their defense has struggled behind them, though, allowing 72 unearned runs to just 36 earned this year.

New London has struggled to establish itself at the plate throughout the season, with the Tigers’ best average and slugging percentage both belonging to junior Quin Smith, who holds the team’s lone home run and is currently batting .280 and slugging 0.440. As a team, New London is batting below .200, slugging below .225, and holds an on base percentage below .300, which has led the Tigers to scoring less than four runs per game.

Eighth-grader Kylea Schwenker is the Tigers’ ace, starting all but two of New London’s games this season. She owns a 4.99 ERA, a 1.74 WHIP and a .206 opponent batting average in almost 70 innings of work.
