The entirety of the KCII listening area remains in abnormally dry ground conditions this week, but drought conditions have begun to recede throughout the rest of the state, according to this week’s data from the U.S. Drought Monitor. This set of data does not include the recent rain observed in the area at the end of the week.
For the second consecutive week, 100% of Washington, Johnson, Keokuk, Louisa, Henry, Jefferson and Iowa Counties were abnormally dry.
Elsewhere in Iowa, though, rains have allowed areas to be downgraded to drought-free. The biggest changes lie in north-central Iowa, as statewide numbers have decreased to 56.9% abnormally dry and 11.63% moderate drought, leaving 31.47% of the state drought-free. A year ago, the numbers were flipped, with about 70% of Iowa being drought-free and around 30% abnormally dry.
