Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig toured the Kalona Creamery and its production facility on Friday. The creamery just North of Kalona is a store that sells a variety of products including locally-source dairy products and has a coffee shop on-site. Many of the goods are produced in a facility near Wellman. Kalona Creamery is part of the Open Gates Group.
Naig first stopped at the Wellman facility before travelling to the creamery itself near Kalona. Naig said he was impressed by the company, “What I love to see is that there’s a lot of investment and improvement going on, so I know business is going well.”
June is National Dairy Month, and he highlighted the creamery as an example of how Iowa should promote its dairy industry, “This is a good example of Kalona Creamery sending products to all 50 states, and we love to see that, Iowa-made products heading to grocery stores across the country.”
Naig’s term as agriculture secretary ends in 2026, when he intends to seek reelection.
