The Hillcrest Academy Raven softball team picked up a signature win Thursday, outslugging Wapello 10-8 on the road. The Arrows scored three in the second to take the early lead, only to see Hillcrest answer with two in the third and six in the fifth to go on top 8-3. An Arrow run in the bottom of five made it 8-4, with two more from the Ravens in the sixth running the score to 10-4. A Wapello last at-bat rally plated four, but the Ravens escaped with the win.
The Arrows out hit Hillcrest 9-7. The Ravens drew six walks and issued four. Malia Yoder and Ella Mize had two hits each for the Ravens. Adrienne Blauvelt and Yoder scored twice. Mize, Morgyn Nafziger, Delaney Shaw, Claire Withrow, Marryn Boshart, Lydia Beachy and Stavia Miller all had one RBI for Hillcrest. Yoder got the win, going six and two thirds, giving up nine hits, three earned runs, four walks and striking out seven. Mize recorded the save getting the final out. Top Wapello bat was Mila Jodran with three hits driving in two. Quinn Zweibohmer took the loss after working four and a third, with four hits, four earned runs, five walks and seven Ks. This is the first Raven win over Wapello in 12 years, moving their record to 7-9 as the Arrows fall to 8-7.
