A ruling regarding a challenge on the new casino in Cedar Rapids has been announced. A judge denied the challenge lawsuit. The judge heard the challenge from Riverside Casino and the Washington County Riverboat Foundation on May 7th at the Henry County Courthouse. The denial announcement was made Thursday morning.

The challenge was related to the specific wording that was placed on a 2021 ballot referendum in Linn County for a casino and gaming.

On a 4-1 vote earlier this year, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission voted to approve a license for a facility to be constructed in Linn County. That vote came one week after the Iowa House had advanced legislation for a five-year moratorium on new casinos in the state. The Senate did not bring that legislation to the floor for a vote.
