The longest day of the year will be this Friday. The Summer Solstice will have the sunrise in Washington at 5:33 a.m. and set at 8:43 p.m. for just over 15 hours of daylight.

Summer will officially kick off with warmer weather in the forecast. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has stated that a hot and humid air mass will move into the region late in the week and into early next week. The peak heat indices are expected to be between 95 and 105 degrees. During hot conditions people are reminded to drink plenty of water, take breaks when working outdoors and use a buddy system, stay in air conditioning and out of the sun if possible, and check on friends, family, neighbors, and pets.
