The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team continues their tough schedule this week when they return home Tuesday to face Mount Vernon. The Golden Hawks are 4-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play after an 8-3 loss at No. 10 Wilton Monday. This is the seventh straight game for the Hawks against a team either in a class larger than them, ranked, or both. This season, the Golden Hawks are hitting .312 as a lineup with a .414OBP and slug on 71 runs, 80 hits, 61RBI, 39 walks and 41 strikeouts. Individually, three Golden Hawks are at .400 or better, led by Kadence Grout’s .484 with 15 hits and 14RBI. Claire Trimpe has a team best 12 runs scored. In the circle, Alena Snider, Noami Wadsworth and Grout have a 7.34ERA, 2.28WHIP, .312 opponent average, 80 hits, 57 earned runs, 44 walks and 26 strikeouts.

Mount Vernon is 13-6 this year, 8-4 in the WAMAC East after a doubleheader split with No. 7 in Class 4A Clear Creek Amana Monday. The Mustangs are ranked No. 7 in Class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. This year, the Mustangs hit .319 as a team with a .397OBP and .454 slug with 106 runs, 145 hits, 85RBI, 46 walks and 76 strikeouts. Individually, six in their lineup are over .300, led by Rylee Rasmussen at .419, Olivia Haverback has 22 hits, Sophia Patten 16 runs and Hayden Gookin 15 driven in. In the circle, Haverback, Patten and Gookin have combined on a 2.26ERA, 1.24WHIP and .185 opponent average on 91 hits, 35 earned runs, 43 walks and 115 strikeouts. The Mustangs have beaten the Hawks nine times in a row, including 3-0 last year.
