The Washington County Fair Board has begun construction on their new restroom facility on the fair grounds.
With most construction projects there are municipal permits and fees required to be paid, however, the Fair Board was granted a reprieve from the Washington City Council. At their meeting last week, the Council voted unanimously to waive the building permit fees that amounted to roughly $900. City Administrator Joe Gaa gave the options to the council, “I’ve laid out some options, is [number] one do you require the permit and charge the fee, which is what we would do on anything else. Number two, waive the permit requirement and conduct no inspection. Or waive the fee but still issue an inspection permit and require inspections, which is really what we would recommend is waiving that fee.”
The new restroom facility will be completed before the fair, and features five women’s stalls, two men’s stalls and four urinals, and two family bathrooms. The facility will be level with the ground for stroller and wheelchair access.
