The Keota Eagles’ (3-5, 2-5) baseball team bounced back with a blowout victory Wednesday night, routing the English Valleys Bears (0-8, 0-8) 19-1.

Keota started the scoring early, plating a pair of runs in each of the first two innings, kicking off the second with a home run sailed over the left field fence by starting pitcher Brycen Horras, the first home run for any Eagle on the season.

In the third inning, the wheels fell off for English Valleys starting pitcher Vinny Westphal, who surrendered a flurry of walks to kick off a 15-run top of the third which saw three different Bears pitchers take the mound.

The offense was kickstarted by aggressive baserunning which took advantage of Westphal’s slow delivery as the Eagles totaled 23 stolen bases, with Keota catcher Jacob Libe leading the way with six bags swiped, “

The biggest hit of the inning came off the bat of shortstop Blake Baker, who smashed a bases-clearing double off the base of the wall.

Defensively, Horras held the Bears down from the opening pitch, setting the first six batters down in order and not allowing a hit until the third. That single off the bat of Colton Mikesel ultimately led to the lone run of the night for English Valleys as Horras took home the complete game victory, surrendering just one hit and two walks in the process.

The victory extended Keota’s winning streak over the Bears to eight games.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday to take on another set of Bears as they travel to play BGM (6-4, 5-1) in another South Iowa Cedar league matchup.
