The No. 12 in Class 2A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team finished a season sweep of the West Branch Bears Thursday in Wellman with a 12-1 win in six innings. The Golden Hawks jumped up early with a run in the first, two more in the third and a five spot in the fourth to build an 8-0 lead. West Branch broke through with a single run in the sixth, only to see Mid-Prairie counter with four in the bottom and end the contest early. The Golden Hawks pounded out 10 total hits, five for extra bases. All nine in the lineup scored at least once, seven of the nine had a hit and six of the nine drove in a run. Tatem Telfer led the charge, finishing a homer shy of the cycle with four RBI and a run scored. Conner Wiles knocked in three with a double and a run scored. Landry Gingerich had two RBI and a run and Jason Heitman had two hits an RBI and a run. Telfer was also the winning pitcher, going five innings with a hit, four walks and 13Ks.
The win was Mid-Prairie’s sixth straight and moves them to 8-1 on the year, 5-1 in conference play as West Branch drops to 1-9 on the year and 0-8 in conference.
