Planting is approaching completion in Iowa. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, last week’s isolated showers led to 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork across the state with farmers planting, cutting hay, and spraying emerging crops.

In southeast Iowa, corn, hay, and soybeans are all ahead of the five-year average. At this time in southeast Iowa, 89-percent of corn has emerged, three points ahead of the average. Soybeans are at 82-percent emerged in the area with the five-year average at 69-percent.

The first cutting of hay and alfalfa is 65-percent complete in southeast Iowa, ahead of the five-year average of 36-percent.
