The WACO Warriors are getting close to starting another summer of softball. WACO’s first campaign as a solo team in eight years was a winless one last season, but most of the starting lineup returns.

That includes Natalie Wagler, who had a .324 batting average and scored a team-high seven runs in 2024, as well as fellow sophomores Carlee Lunsford and Mei Leichty. Head coaches Dominique Tolle and Michelle Wade tell KCII Sports that they saw great growth for their players in their first varsity experience.

“The biggest takeaway that I noticed from them [last year] was having that resiliency and grit to keep fighting and keep plugging away,” Tolle says.

“Other teams had made comments that we always seemed positive,” Wade says. “Even when we were losing, they still seemed to stay with it.”

WACO opens the 2025 softball season by hosting Highland tomorrow night. You can hear the Huskies take on the Warriors in the KCII Area Game of the Week tomorrow evening starting with pregame coverage at 6:30 streaming on the KCII3 app and KCIIradio.com.
