It was a big weekend on the blue oval for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk and Hillcrest Academy Raven boys and girls track teams at the 2025 State Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The Mid-Prairie girls had the highest team finish in the KCII listening area, placing fifth in Class 2A with 33 points. The Golden Hawk girls had seven scoring events including a pair of runner-up finishes for freshman Jeorgia Evans, including the long jump at 18 feet even and second in the 100m dash at 12.09 seconds. She was also third in the 200m at 25.26 seconds. It was a third place finish for the 4×100 team of Jeorgia and Jovi Evans, Tessa Bombei and Myli Hershberger in 49.15 seconds. The 4×800 crew with Kendal Landstrum, Tessa Brokaw, Brooklyn Stutzman and Rachel Hostetler were seventh in 9:52.55. Jovi Evans went seventh and eighth in the 200 and 100 respectively with times of 25.97 seconds and 12.51 seconds.
The Mid-Prairie boys were ninth in Class 2A with 25 team points and five medal events. Top finishes came from Jayden Stafford, finishing as state runner-up in the wheelchair 100, 200 and 400 in times of 18.13 seconds, 32.03 seconds and 1:02.99 respectively. He was third in the 800 at 2:18.44. It was third place for Emmett Swartzentruber in the two mile at 9:33.35 and sixth in the mile at 4:21.38, third for Burke Berry in shot put at 54’4” and third for the sprint medley of Kaden Kos, Ryan Henry, Cash Brown and Jayse Yoder in 3:32.82. Ryan Henry was sixth in the 100m dash in 11 seconds.
The Hillcrest Academy boys scored 10.5 points against the Class 1A field with two medal events, led by a third place finish for Owen Scott in the long jump, flying 21’7” and fourth place for Kale Bailey in the high jump, clearing 6’1”. Top Raven girls performance was Marie Yoder 11th in the 3000.
