
Corn planting in Iowa has reached 91% complete, ahead of the five-year average of 85%. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service, rapid progress was recorded last week for corn and soybean planting, however due to weather conditions there were scattered reports of replanting as some early planted crops struggled to emerge with dry conditions in some areas.
In southeast Iowa, 65% of corn has emerged, ahead of the five-year average of 49%. Also in this corner of the state, 87% of soybeans have been planted and 47% have emerged. The five-year average for soybean planting is 71% with 25% emerged.
Topsoil moisture in southeast Iowa is rated at 2% surplus, 38% adequate, and 51% short. Subsoil moisture in the area is rated at 2% surplus, 55% adequate, and 42% short.
