The Kalona City Council approved the rezone and conditional use agreement for a Southtown parcel at its Monday meeting.
The lot, located at 2554 133rd Street, was rezoned from Agricultural to Highway Commercial, with uses limited to a restaurant, retail/office space, and nine short-term stay cabins. Any other use would need to return to the city council for approval.
City administrator Ryan Schlabaugh said that the owners plan first to construct the restaurant and later expand to the retail or office space and cabins.
With no written or verbal comment against the change, the council waived second reading and passed the zoning ordinance amendment unanimously on third reading.
