There are plenty of athletes from Wellman and Kalona ready to take on the competition at the Blue Oval at Drake Stadium in Des Moines this week. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk and Hillcrest Academy Raven boys and girls track teams are sending a total of 40 events to state this year.

Thirty-three of those events belong to the Golden Hawks. For the girls they include the 100 and 200 with Jeorgia and Jovi Evans, the 800 with Kendal Landstrum and Rachel Hostelter, the 1500 with Rachel Hostetler and Brooklyn Stutzman, Jeorgia Evans in long jump, Harper Pacha in shot put, discus with Dessa Poll, the 3000 with Rachel Hostetler and Brooklyn Stutzman, the 4×100 of Tessa Bombei, Myli Hershberger, Jeorgia and Jovi Evans, the 4×200 of Myli Hershberger, Hannah Rodgers, Ruby Miller and Jovi Evans, the shuttle hurdle relay with Sophie Miller, Tessa Bombei, Olivia Schlabach and Ruby Miller and the 4×800 featuring Kendal Landstrum, Tessa Brokaw, Brooklyn Stutzman and Rachel Hostetler.

For the Golden Hawk boys it’s Ryan Henry in the 100, Jayse Yoder in the 800, Emmett Swartzentruber in the mile and two mile, Preston Yutzy in the mile, Jayden Stafford in the wheelchair 100, 200, 400 and 800s, the shot put with Burke Berry and Tommy Miller, long jump with Thomas Lueck, discus with Kaden Kos, the 4×100 of Kaden and Kendrick Kos, Nolan Jergens and Ryan Henry, the 4×200 with Nolan Jergens, Kendrick Kos, Cash Brown and Ryan Henry and the distance medley of Kaden Kos, Cash Brown, Ryan Henry and Jayse Yoder.

The Hillcrest Academy Ravens will have seven events on the blue oval including Owen Scott in long jump and the 400m, Kale Bailey in high jump, Rya Scott in the 100 and 200, Marie Yoder in the 3000 and the 4×200 team of Stavia Miller, Karina Bourha, Niva Helmuth and Rya Scott.
