A Kalona woman has been charged with felony forgery charges.
Johnson County officials arrested 48-year-old Veronica Gatlin on May 6th for charges that stemmed from use of a stolen debit card in March. According to court records, Gatlin gave the victim a ride to Veridian Credit Union to open a bank account. The victim was informed her account had been canceled due to multiple overdraft charges. Footage showed Gatlin depositing a forged check into the victim’s account.
Gatlin was also seen on surveillance footage using the stolen credit card to purchase items at a nearby smoke shop. Gatlin was in possession of the victim’s stolen debit card and using it throughout the Coralville and Johnson County area without permission from the victim.
The total amount charged from the stolen debit card was approximately $2,915.69 before the account was terminated. Gatlin was charged with unauthorized use of a credit card and forgery, both class D felonies. She was also charged with fourth degree theft, a serious misdemeanor.
