U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (R – IA) questions the ethics of a jet that President Donald Trump has received from Qatar. When asked his thoughts on the subject Grassley said, “I think there are a lot of questions about ethics that need to be worked out. I got to be satisfied on that. I think that the government taking it is one thing, then what happens if it goes to his library. But, really, what worries me in this whole discussion is the President in 2017 made a deal with Boeing to build a plane for $3.9 billion dollars. Now there is some indication that it might not even be done when he gets done with this term. So what’s wrong that we, that Boeing can’t build an Air Force One faster than let’s say the shortest time would be about 13 years. And then, I’ve ridden on Air Force One, and I don’t even know why we need a new Air Force One, it’s a very quality plane ride.”
The Boeing 747 gifted to the U.S. government by Qatar is currently at the San Antonio, Texas, airport, awaiting a specialized overhaul from a defense contractor so that President Trump can use it as the next Air Force One. The $400 million plane offer came to light recently as Trump was leaving for a trip that took him to the United Arab Emirates.
