The Hillcrest Academy Ravens are moving on to the boys’ golf state championships after the Class 1A district tournament at Heritage Oaks Golf & Country Club in Wapello yesterday.
Hillcrest Academy finished third as a team with a combined score of 346 strokes, but it was enough to better both the Keota Eagles and Winfield-Mount Union Wolves for third place.
Ravens senior Liam Schrock was the individual district champion as well by shooting a three-over-par 75, collecting three birdies against six bogeys across 18 holes.
Junior teammate Rowan Miller was not far behind with a 79 to finish fourth overall, while junior Ethan Yoder fired a 95 and sophomore Lawson Schrock carded a 97 as Hillcrest heads back to a Class 1A state tournament that they won in 2023.
While Hillcrest returns to state, Keota and Winfield-Mount Union fell just short of repeat trips. In addition to the Wolves coming 11 strokes shy of the Ravens as a team, junior Max Edwards shot an 82 to lead WMU by was two strokes back of one of the two at-large qualifiers from the district.
Cody Milks carded a 91 for Winfield-Mount Union, while fellow sophomore Justin Knipfer and junior Grant Anderson each finished with 92 and senior Sinjin Brown had a 95. Junior Nick Sparrow added a 99 for the Wolves.
Keota was paced by an 84 from Brennan McGuire, good for 10th on the individual leaderboard, but they would be seven strokes back of Hillcrest as a team. Fellow sophomore Porter Cave shot an 86, while sophomore Tucker Sprouse had a 91 for the Eagles and senior Billie Kindred was one stroke behind him.
