The WACO Warriors wrapped up the soccer regular season by taking down Sigourney-Keota 1-0 Thursday night. Senior Keiran Luitjens scored the only goal of the match for WACO on an assist by junior Tristan Luitjens, and the Warrior defense would make that single tally stand up.

Sophomore goalkeeper Holden Hughes made five saves to earn a clean sheet and help WACO improve to 4-9. Meanwhile, the loss drops Sigoureny-Keota to 1-12.

Both teams now prepare for the postseason to begin Tuesday, with the Warriors meeting Danville and SK traveling to face Central Lee in the first round of the Class 1A Substate 5 playoffs.

The Highland Huskies would end the regular season Friday with a loss to Mediapolis, but not without some drama. Highland got goals from senior Sage Hartley-Norman in the semifinals of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Tournament on assists by Jared Diaz and Jaydee Macareno.

Just like their quarterfinals win over Hillcrest Academy, the match was still tied at 2 after regulation and overtime. Unfortunately, the Huskies would be on the wrong end of the penalty-kick shootout this time, falling 3-0 to the Bulldogs.

Despite the defeat, Highland still has a record of 7-6-2 as they now prepare to host Grandview Christian in the first round in Class 1A Substate 6 on Tuesday.
