The postseason has arrived for local girls golf teams, including the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks, who will entertain eight other schools at today’s Class 2A Regional opener at the Kalona Golf Course.

The Golden Hawks come into the day with a 39-5 overall record after finishing as River Valley Conference runners-up at last week’s RVC Championship meet in Muscatine with a team score 389, where they were led by Morgyn Bender’s individual round of 93. Bender, Addison English, Olivia Swartzentruber and Lilly Miller each were named All-Conference. This year, the Hawks have a team average of 189 per nine holes and 392 on 18, led individually by English at 45 on nine and Bender at 92 on 18. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 12 in the latest Class 2A poll from the Iowa Golf Coaches Association. The Hawk’s full varsity line-up appears in the individual poll including No. 25 Bender, No. 30 Swartzentruber, No. 35 English, No. 78 Alena Snider, No. 94 Miller, and No. 126 Delani Blum. Mid-Prairie has appeared in three straight state tournaments, a program record.

The Golden Hawks are joined today by Central Lee, No. 30 Mediapolis, No. 32 Iowa City Regina, Tipton, No. 20 West Branch, No. 22 West Liberty and Wilton. There are 15 ranked golfers in today’s field. The top two teams and top six individuals are guaranteed to advance to next week’s regional finals. Action continues all day Friday at the Kalona Golf Course.
