A policy change for General Assistance was approved by the Washington County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.
The change makes the percentage of income 150 percent above the poverty level according to the federal guidelines. Supervisor Richard Young presented that number to make it match the Veterans Assistance poverty level. The new figure equates to an annual income of $23,475 to qualify for assistance through the county-level program that can provide rent, utilities (gas, electric, and water), burial, and food vouchers upon approval.
The motion was passed unanimously. General Assistance for the county has been overseen by HACAP since July 1st of 2024 at the cost of $1,200 a year.
