The Lone Tree Lions had the best finish among area girls’ track and field teams at last night’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference Championships in Wayland, taking third place in the North division with an even 100 points to slot in 30 points behind both Pekin and Louisa-Muscatine.

Lone Tree’s outstanding relay teams again led the way with three conference titles. The quartet of sophomore Addison McCullough, junior Ava Christofferson and seniors Rylee Shield and Vivian Zaruba won the 4-by-100-meters in 51.8 seconds, the 4-by-200 in almost one minute 51 seconds and the sprint medley in 1:52.

Shield was also the Super Conference North champion of the 400-meter dash by clocking in at nearly one minute flat. Zaruba would take second in the 200 meters, as would Christofferson in the long jump and senior Hayden Yoder in the discus throw. Yoder was also third in the shot put toss, as was the Lions’ 4-by-400 relay.

WACO finished fourth in team scoring at their home of Roth Track and Field and got a conference crown from Bren Graber in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:12.

The freshman was also second in the high jump, while teammate Carlee Lunsford was third in the open 800. The Warriors added a bronze medal in the sprint medley and silver in the 4-by-400, the distance medley and the shuttle hurdles.

While they finished fifth as a team, Hillcrest Academy would get two gold medals from Rya Scott, who was the Super Conference North champion of the 100 meters in 12.76 seconds and the 200 in 26.63.

The junior was also third in the long jump, as was sophomore teammate Marie Yoder in both the 1,500 and 3,000, while the Ravens would be runners-up in the 4-by-200 and third in the 4-by-100.
