The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys golf team continued their climb through the River Valley Conference at Tuesday’s RVC Championship meet at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course. The Golden Hawks were second of 15 teams at the event, with a 314, bested only by one shot, by West Branch at 313. While the team didn’t quite reach the top, one individual did. Junior Bryce Henry shot a sterling round of one-over-par for a 73, including three birdies, and a back nine 34 to win the individual RVC Championship. He’s the first Golden Hawk to win the title since 2006. Other Golden Hawk rounds included Denver Nelson 78, Hudson Ehrenfelt 81, Ace Peck 82, and Grayson Gingerich and Clayton Davidson 89 each. Henry, Nelson, Ehrenfelt and Peck were named All-Conference. They spoke with KCII Sports about the day.

Henry said, “Previously shooting 316 as a team this week, and getting an even better score here, it’s good to do it again this season. Past couple of meets I’ve been hot. I felt confident coming in here today and I wanted to stay hot. (Winning the conference title) It’s unreal! The past two years, I’ve been just short of making any All-Conference awards, and this year I just went at it!”

Ehrenfelt added, “My confidence was unreal with my putter. I just bought a brand new putter and was hitting 20-foot putts. I just haven’t looked back. That’s what’s been keeping me in it and it’s awesome.”

Nelson continued, “This is great. We’re staying consistent. Doing our best on each hole, not letting mistakes bother us. It’s great to see our whole team do well. We can still shoot better than this, but today was a great score.”

Peck said, “It’s great to see us play well this time of year and gain confidence.”

The Golden Hawks were eighth at this event last year, with one All-Conference choice. The Hawks are 41-16 on the year and travel to Keota Thursday.
