Hillcrest Academy found a goal in the final 90 seconds to salvage a tie with visiting Danville Friday in Kalona. It was the Bears that got on the board first with a goal just before half, to take a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way until the 78th minute when Micah Gerber served a ball into the box and Mason Helmuth headed it to the back of the net. Helmuth joined KCII Sports post-match to talk about the goal, “They had a solid back line so, we tried to play through-balls over the top. We got more offense oriented late. We were pushing for a goal and hoped we got one. Micah Gerber got it to his head and had a perfect pass from his head right to mine and I put it in the net. I knew when it was coming to me it was going in!”
Hillcrest had five shots on goal and three corner kicks. Kyle Neuschwander made a pair of saves in goal. The Ravens are now 3-2-1 this year as Danville stands at 1-4-1.
