The Hillcrest Academy Raven soccer team got back to their winning ways Tuesday with a 2-0 shut out win in Kalona over visiting Cedar Valley Christian. The Ravens struck for both of their goals before half, one from Micah Gerber on a Mason Bender assist, the second a Mason Helmuth strike, and Gerber with the helper. This was more than enough for a stifling Hillcrest defense, anchored by goalkeeper Kyle Neuschwander to secure the win, as he turned in a three save clean sheet. Neuschwander spoke after the match with KCII sports about the Raven defense, “My defenders are solid enough that we can run three in the back instead of four. We’re also really strong in the mid-field. I have definitely gotten better. We’re pretty good at talking, generally, on the defensive side so we can control a lot more space with less people.”

The win moves the Ravens to 3-2 this year ahead of a Friday date with Danville.
