A new golf season started for the Washington Demon boys yesterday like many of their more recent ones, with a team victory in a conference meet. Washington’s combined score of 153 strokes was 10 better than Mount Pleasant at Fairfield Golf & Country Club.
Drew Conrad led the Demons with the medalist round of one-over-par 36, picking up a birdie on the first hole to go with only two bogeys in nine total holes played. Fellow junior Rajan Roth was only one stroke behind him and had a clean card beyond a double bogey on the seventh.
Junior Carson Brown had Washington’s third sub-40 round and was fourth overall at three over while also making birdie on the ninth. Cole Vetter added a 42, while fellow senior Conner Leyden shot a 44 and sophomore Kaleb Orr had a 49 to give the Demons their 13th straight win in a Southeast Conference event.
The Washington girls would finish fifth as a team while hosting a conference meet yesterday at Washington Golf & Country Club. Senior Lauren Hinrichsen paced the Demons by shooting a 57. The Washington ladies next play Thursday at Fairfield, while the Demons boys go to Fort Madison that same day.
