The community is invited to laugh along at the Washington Community Center as the HARP Players present The Outsider. Director Greg Wiley shares the premise of the comedic play, “This is a fast moving comedy. It is about someone who is thrust into a situation they’re not necessarily prepared for but they’re doing the best they can, and they’re going to kind of work their way through with help from people who may or may not be able to help them and come out on top, I think. It’s really a ‘I’ve got to overcome this, and I’ve got to do it,’ but boy, there’s a lot of craziness along the way.”
Lead actor Mike Schantz gives some insight on his character, “Ned Newley, played by myself, starts out as the lieutenant governor and is thrust into the governor’s position because of a scandal. And this is part of the office being wiped out and the confusion. I’m a person who is basically scared of my own shadow because I’ve never been in the public eye, and now I’m thrust into the public eye. And it’s the story of how I handle that, and the people surrounding me that help me.”
The play will be on stage at 7:30 p.m. on March 21st, 22nd, 28th, and 29th, and one matinee will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 30th. Tickets can be purchased through the Washington Community Center’s website or by phone. It is $15 for adults and $10 for students.
Part of the proceeds from the show will be donated by the HARP Players to the Lake Darling Youth Center.
