While the forecast this week still calls for snow flurries in the air, the turn of the calendar to March signals the start of severe weather season in Iowa. Skywarn in conjunction with the National Weather Service Office in the Quad Cities is giving the community and local authorities opportunities to get certified or renew their storm spotter certification ahead of the storm season with training courses. Topics included are storm formation, safe spotting locations, how to report observed weather and more.

In-person training sessions remain including tonight for Des Moines and Louisa County spotters at the Cornerstone Wedding and Event Center in Burlington from 6-8p.m., and Wednesday, March 19th from 6-8p.m. for Louisa and Muscatine County spotters at the Letts Community Center, and Wednesday, March 26th from 6:30-8:30p.m. at the Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa Oakdale Campus in Coralville.

More classes may also be scheduled if there is demand. Online sessions are also available. To view the full schedule, find online course materials and information about registering as a National Weather Service storm spotter, visit the link with this story at KCIIradio.com.
