
A Washington man and a Brighton woman were arrested after officers in Louisa County conducted a traffic stop and discovered 95 grams of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other illicit substances in their vehicle. According to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, on January 28th, 40-year old Joseph Franklin Karr and 20-year-old Jakayla Elizabeth Stevens of Brighton were arrested.
At approximately 1:15 a.m. on the 28th, Louisa County deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 61 and Highway 78 for an inoperable light. The driver was Karr. During the stop, Louisa County K-9 Drake conducted an open-air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle and indicated a positive alert. During the subsequent search of the vehicle, deputies located 95.49 grams of methamphetamine, 27.28 grams of marijuana, 11 THC vape cartridges, fentanyl, digital scales with drug residue, multiple hypodermic syringes, and several other items of drug paraphernalia.
Karr faces five felonies, including intent to distribute. Stevens was charged with possession of a controlled substance methamphetamine second offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
Karr pleaded not guilty at his initial appearance last week. He has bonded out of custody.
