It’s shaping up to be a big season on the mat in southeast Iowa. The first wrestling rankings of the season from IAwrestle.com feature 10 boy’s and girl’s athletes from the area.

For the boys in Class 2A, the Washington Demons Aaron Boone stands at No. 3 at 132lbs. He is out to an 11-0 start with eight pins.

Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk Burke Berry is No. 12 at 285lbs in Class 2A. Berry is unbeaten through six matches with four falls and an individual title at the Jeremy Fulk Classic last weekend.

Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union has a pair in the 2A poll. Dakota Aney is No. 7 at 106lbs. He holds a 6-0 record with four pins. Jacob Nelson is No. 11 at 113lbs. He is 3-3 this year with two bonus point wins.

The WACO Warriors also have a ranked duo. Louden Huisenga stands at No. 1 in Class 1A’s 190lb division. He is 6-0 with six pins and a Willard Howell Invitational title from Wapello. At 113lbs, teammate Gage Samo is No. 4. Samo is 5-0 with three falls and a Wapello championship.

For local girls, Mid-Prairie puts a pair in the first Class 1A poll. Ashlee Farrier is No. 6 at 130lbs. She is 13-0 this season with nine pins and individual championships at the North Scott, Wilton and West Liberty tournaments. Ellie Callahan is ranked No. 10 at 170 for the Hawks. She is 9-3 with eight pins and a West Liberty tournament championship.

Sigourney-Keota’s Reanah Utterback retains her spot atop the 1A poll at 115lbs. The defending multi-time state champ is undefeated at 15-0, all by pin, all but two in the first period, with individual championships at Wilton, Fort Madison, Wapello and Pekin.

WACO’s Elyssa Graber is No. 8 at 105lbs in Class 1A. She has piled up an 18-2 record this season that includes 17 pins and championships at the SK, BGM, Columbus and Wapello tournaments.
