Waterworks Park in Fairfield was all about Washington Demons cross country Thursday. The Washington boys brought home the AA team title with their score of 40 points, the No. 16 in Class 3A Demons topped the No. 14 in Class 3A Clear Creek Amana Clippers by a single tally. Micah Rees won the individual title in a time of 16:51, beating the field by 46 seconds. Other Washington finishers included Drew Horak seventh, Tyler Alderton ninth, Elijah Morris 10th, Andrew Rees 13th, Lane Schrock 25th, William Kennedy 53rd, Sawyer Tschantz 62nd, Ivan Rangel 63rd, Nate Edmonds 81st, Keven Raymundo 84th, Jack Kleese 88th, Jamie Esquivel 93rd, Luke Schiebel 107th and Sean Steepleton 127th.

Winfield-Mt. Union had the highest area boys team finish in Class A, taking third with 63 points. Danville won the title with 26 points. Top finisher for the Wolves was Kohlby Newsom fourth in 18:54. Overall winner was Danville’s Rylan Martin in 17:38. Other places for WMU included Gabe Hemsworth 11th, Jacob Haines 17th, Bowen Thomson 19th, Ty Scorpil 24th, Nick Sparrow 25th, Jeff Maish 29th, Sheaden Adams 34th, Jacob Nelson 41st, Jaiden Beeding 45th, Preston Prior 48th, and Gabe White 66th.

Highland was sixth in the team standings with 221 points led by Brendan Schnoebelen’s 56th place finish in 24:44. Other Highland runners included Jackson Schneider 57th, Brayden Zywiec 58th, Chase Boshart 59th and Chase Hickenbottom 69th.

Hillcrest Academy did not post a team score. The Ravens were led by Micah Gerber in ninth with a time of 19:26. Other finishers included Jesse Blossom 23rd, Kyle Neuschwander 63rd and Jeremiah Danker 70th.

Lone Tree did not have a team score. The Lions were led by Jadin Greiser in 49th with a time of 23:39. Other Lions runners included Taylor Alberhasky 50th, Joey Birtcher 52nd and Blake Honeycut 53rd.

On the girls side of the event, No. 16 in Class 3A Washington finished second in the AA Class with 52 points, No. 11 in 3A Clear Creek Amana won the title with a score of 50. Top Demon finisher was Iris Dahl in third with a time of 21:09. Avery Rump of Fort Madison won the meet in 20:22. Other Washington runners included Quincy Griffis eighth, Alyvia Anderson 12th, Lauren Horak 15th, Abigail Kleese 16th, Angeline Anderson 17th, Grace Voss 20th, Isabella Lujan 21st, Isobel Murphy 25th, Taylor Bartholomew 29th, Cecilia Murphy 36th, Kendall Hinrichsen 41st, Giselle Marcelino 57th, Ada Kendall 63rd, Ally Rees 66th, Eden Levetzow 75th, Jetzibe Sanchez 77th and Alijah Jara 91st.

Winfield Mt. Union had the top Class A score at 147 points. No. 4 in Class 1A Pekin took the team title with 21 points. Top finish for the Lady Wolves was Karilyn Titus 31st in 29:45. Chloe Glosser of Pekin won the meet in 21:17. Other WMU runners included Maggie Hutton 34th, Olivia Martinez 38th, Emma Richardson 39th, and Bayla Thomson 41st.

Lone Tree did not post a team score but were led by Vivian Zaruba with a seventh place finish in 24:41.

Highland also did not have a team score. The Huskies were led by Katelyn Waters in 35th with a time of 30:54. Halle Hazelett was 37th.
