An early season girls’ basketball rivalry will take place in Winfield tonight when the Wolves host WACO for a Henry County matchup.

The Wolves got the new campaign started on the right foot with a 60-29 win over New London on Friday where Keely Malone led the team off the bench with 10 points. WMU brought everyone back from a 12-11 season a year ago including 2018-19 leading scorer Jenna Buffington after missing all of last winter due to injury.

This is the opener for the Warriors and they look to improve off of a 5-17 season. Three seniors were lost to graduation, but they return their top two scorers in Morgan Graber and Ellah Kissell with 10.1 and 7.5 points per game, respectively. Graber also attacks the boards after averaging seven rebounds a night. WMU has won the last two meetings including a 39-29 game last December.

The area showdown takes place at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Winfield.
