Out of 20,000 institutions, the Lone Tree School District was one of 818 to win the 2019 College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award. To be eligible for this award, an institution must have achieved either 50% or higher female representation in one or both AP computer science courses or a percentage of female computer science examinees that meets or exceeds that of the school’s female population. Lone Tree received the award for their AP Computer Science Principles class, and was one of 639 to be recognized for achieving the result. High School computer teacher Jessica Howard says only two other schools in Iowa received the award and that she pushes her students out of their comfort zones in order to complete something new and amazing.
