An icon in southeast Iowa is getting some upgrades to its surrounding area in Columbus Junction. Pictures recently released by the City of Columbus Junction show work being done on a gateway to the famous swinging bridge. Improvements include a sun shade area with benches and cement platform. More work is expected on the project this fall. The bridge is a pedestrian suspension bridge and the original footbridge was erected in 1886.
