The Washington track teams made the trip to Fairfield Thursday night for the Southeast Conference meet and came away with a pair of top three overall finishes.

The boys’ team placed second out of five teams with 87 points while Mount Pleasant took home the title with 125. Mitchell Driscoll was the headliner winning the 200m (23.34) and was the first to cross the finish line in the 400m by .01 seconds (51.23). Head Coach of the Demons Steve Roth noted the boost the senior gave the team this year. “For being a golfer and having a lot on his plate he sure has been a pleasant surprise. I talked to him during football season to try to get him to come out and he said he would. I am sure glad he did because he has had an outstanding senior year.” The distance medley relay team of Trevor Quigley, Luke Turner, Ethan Hunt, and Justin Simmering claimed the other title for the Demons (3:46.20). Second place performances included Cade Hennigan in the 110m hurdles (15.91); Ethan Hunt in the 400m hurdles (56.47); Kael Adam in the discus (132’9’’); 4x100m (44.83); 4x400m (3:34.75); shuttle hurdle (1:05.38); and sprint medley relay (1:36.68).

The girls finished in a tie for third with 47 points while the Panthers managed the sweep with 161. The relay teams were dominate for Washington, as they placed first in the 4x100m (52.21) with a team of Leah Marek, Isabel Bailey, Jenah Greiner, and Ashley Telleen; the 4x200m (1:50.85) of Bailey, Marek, Telleen, and Greiner; and the 4x400m (4:20.11) of Marek, Greiner, Telleen, and Kelsey Pacha. Other notable performances included Telleen third in the 400m hurdles (1:11.03); 4x800m in third (11:54.27); sprint medley third (1:58.76); Bailey fourth in the long jump (15’9.5’’); Marek fourth in the 200m (30.94) and 100m hurdles (19.05); and Elyse Hunt fourth in the 400m (1:12.00).
