One more piece of the funding puzzle for the Wellness Park in Washington is now in place, as a grant has been secured for a paved trail. Washington City Administrator Brent Hinson announced a $100,000 grant has been awarded to the City by The Wellmark Foundation, “We will have a paved trail coming from the Kewash up through the Wellness Park. So at this point, the things we have to build are the trail and two youth ball fields. So, hopefully we will get great news from the Riverboat Foundation in the middle of May and we will be able to actually build a full park. But, one thing at a time.” There have also been grants received to construct two baseball/softball youth fields.
The Wellmark Foundation grant will match dollar for dollar and up to 50% can be in-kind gifts. The Wellness Park is being developed in phases with the overall goal of having four total baseball/softball fields, a concession stand with restrooms, a pond, a parking lot, and two full-size soccer fields. So far, crews have done the grading work and installed infrastructure.
