The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys soccer team is back at the friendly confines of the Mid-Prairie soccer complex in Wellman Friday when they host Cedar Valley Christian for a non-conference match.
Mid-Prairie was last in action Friday when they were upset by West Branch 2-1 in Iowa City and Zeus Fugate had the only goal.
The injury bug has bitten the Hawks hard in the home stretch of the season, losing leading scorer Ashten VanWinkle to a broken collar bone in the West Branch match and second leading scorer Nathan Cadena to a leg injury for the year. Mid-Prairie is led on the season by Aaron Slaubaugh with four goals and Mason Hartley and Byron Yoder with two assists each. Dominic Pickard has the team lead with 17 saves.
Cedar Valley Christian comes into the match, winless on the season at 0-8. The Huskies have been outscored 51-3 in that span. Cedar Valley Christian is led by Nat Kejella with two goals, Elijah Becker has an assist and Connor Maloney has stopped 56 of 96 shots this year. These two teams met a season ago in Cedar Rapids with Mid-Prairie taking a 3-2 win. The match starts tonight at 5p.m.
