The Highland and Columbus football teams faced off to open up the season on Friday night, with the Huskies taking it in big fashion, 48-16.
It was all Highland from the start, with the Huskies scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter. The Husky offense was balanced scoring-wise, with three touchdowns coming via the pass and four via the run. The Wildcats scored all 16 of their points in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns and two successful two-point conversions.
Trey Lasek shined in his senior season debut for Highland, posting 211 total yards and four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing). On top of his success, Brady Hahn and Cole Adamson each had 90+ yard games and a touchdown apiece.
For Columbus, Will Schwab was a standout. He only caught one pass, but it was for 45 yards and a score. The Wildcats are a very young team this year, and head coach Scott Simmons says he certainly didn’t expect perfection week one.
The next games for each of these two teams will be played this coming Friday, with Highland travelling to Alburnett and Columbus hosting GMG. Kickoff for each of those games is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
