It’s been a busy year at PAWS and More in Washington with the shelter taking in over 700 animals in 2017. The shelter also had updates to its air conditioning system and septic system.

If you’re thinking of adopting a pet during the holidays, director of PAWS Amber Talbot recommends not looking for a specific breed, “I think it’s important to think about not really the type of dog you’re looking for but really the personality that best suits your family. Do you guys want the active, playful dog? Do you want a dog that still needs some training? Or do you want a dog that’s kind of going to be a couch potato that doesn’t need any training from you? Or a more independent dog? Or a more externally motivated dog that does his own thing? So there’s such a wide range of personalities and breed usually plays a very small role in that personality.”

Talbot adds that before adopting a family should have everyone in the house in favor of adopting an animal and have the resources to care for it from daily feeding to routine veterinary care.
