There is always excitement around the first football game of the year but this season the Washington Demons will have more to look forward to, as Friday’s opener hosting Albia will also be the Heroes game. The annual game is to honor all community members that have served.
Veterans, those currently in the military, reserves, law enforcement, firefighters, or medical and rescue crew members are invited to be part of the festivities before the game. There will be a caravan at 4:15 p.m. that will travel from Washington High School to Case Field. All local heroes are welcome to join this caravan by personal or service vehicle. When arriving at the field there will be a hospitality tent for these members to enjoy and reminisce. These heroes will also have the opportunity to be on the field or sidelines during warm ups to interact with the players and coaches. The festivities will conclude when the heroes line up for the National Anthem and take the field with the Demons in preparation for the game. To take part in this you are asked to be at the five-yard line by 7:15 p.m. Following the pre-game ceremonies there will be limited reserved seating for all heroes to enjoy the game. The Demons will wear their special camo and black heroes game jerseys for the contest.
Any questions about the event can be emailed to Kris Pierson at kpierson@washington.k12.ia.us or call the high school at 319-653-2143.
