The regular season is history. Second chances are no more. The battle to stay alive in the class 2A boys’ soccer playoffs starts tonight as Washington hosts Mid-Prairie in the first round of sub-state.

The contest shapes up to be a good one as it provides a potentially dangerous offense of the Demons to the stout defense of the Golden Hawks. Something has got to give as Washington (6-7) carries the second highest goal total in the Southeast Conference and the Golden Hawks (6-5) have allowed the fewest goals in the River Valley.

The Demons’ offensive attack comes from all over as they have eight players who have multiple goals on the season led by Caleb Suchan with 12. Thomas Zimmer has been a force in the net as his 112 saves lead the conference. Mid-Prairie has some playmakers of their own led by Cian Borra by recording eight goals on the year. Goalie Ryan Miller is a big reason for their defensive success, as he has only allowed 12 goals for the season.

The area showdown gets started at 5 p.m. tonight at Washington High School.
