Those seeking fresh local produce in Columbus Junction better act fast.
This week is the first of the month-long farmers market in Columbus Junction. There are some changes to be aware of for this year’s farmers market, as Community Development Director Mallory Smith points out, “We are moving to Monday nights. We were a Friday market, we’re shifting to Monday. We’re moving downtown, to the Community Bank and Trust parking lot, and we’re going to be 5 to 7 p.m. instead of 4:30 to 6:30.” Smith said the market was changed to Mondays so producers can have more preparation time on Sunday, and because patrons are more likely to buy their produce at the beginning of the week. The shift in times was also made to accommodate Tyson employees. The new downtown location was made in order to get closer to the community and activity of the town. The Columbus Junction Farmers Market takes place every Monday in May.
