The Keota school board voted to not extend high school principal Nathan Carlson’s contract ending in June. The board held a special meeting Wednesday to motion to terminate his contract as the district is consolidating the two full time positions of high school principal and district superintendent into one role. Board secretary Cherie Westendorf said the deadline for applying for the superintendent principal position was April 25, and the position was posted to the Educate Iowa website. Current superintendent Dennis Phelps did not put himself in consideration for the job. Westendorf said applicant interviews are expected in the next few weeks.
