Mid-Prairie senior wrestler Visouth Peterschmidt wrapped up his Golden Hawk career Saturday in the consolation rounds of the individual state wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

He opened the day facing Nick Foss of Harlan, his opponent in the opening match of the tournament Thursday. He again bested Foss, this time 12-10 in sudden victory after trailing 9-4 going to the third period. In the third place match at 182lbs Peterschmidt faced Boone McDermott of Dubuque Wahlert. Peterschmidt suffered a shoulder injury in the contest following a mat return and after an injury time out chose to continue in the match. He was pinned by McDermott in 1:18, ending his tournament in fourth place.

Visouth Peterschmidt is the third of three brothers to wrestle at Mid-Prairie. He, along with his brothers Nearoth and Phirom all qualified for the state tournament at least once in their careers with Phirom going to Des Moines twice. Each finished their tournament on the podium with Visouth posting the best finish of the three, taking fourth place this season, Nearoth placed eighth in his lone trip while Phirom placed seventh and eighth with his two appearances.
