The No. 12 ranked Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team saw their season come to an end Saturday night in the regional final round of the class 3A tournament, falling to No. 3 Center Point-Urbana 52-35.
CPU led 4-1 early, but Mid-Prairie tied the game on an Ireland Hostetler three point play. The Stormin’ Pointers held a 9-4 lead after one quarter and used a 7-0 run in the second quarter to push the lead to 24-13 at the half. In the second half Mid-Prairie continued to struggle with the Pointer press, committing 29 total turnovers on the night. Mid-Prairie fell behind by 16 but started the fourth quarter on a 7-0 led by Ali Butters. With their lead trimmed to nine, Center Point Urbana poured in eight in a row to take momentum back and seal the win.
Mid-Prairie was led on the night by Ali Butters with 11 points, Addie Rath had 10. With the loss, Mid-Prairie ends their season at 17-7. Center Point-Urbana improves to 21-3 and advances to the state tournament in Des Moines for the second straight season.
